Frequently Asked Questons

Q: What are Microgreens?

A: Baby Plants that you can eat. Some people confuse them with sprouts. Sprouts are actually “sprouted seeds” when a seed grows a root. These often look a clearish white or yellow color. Microgreens are one stage past this when the plant grows it’s first set of leaves called primary leaves.

Q: Why should I eat microgreens?

A: Because they are A-Mazing! At this stage of development the plant has all the nutrition and flavor of the adult plant packed into a small package. So they are SUPER healthy, full of nutrition. They have unique flavor at this stage as well and taste fabulous

Q: How do I eat them?

A: On and with just about everything you already eat. Don’t be shy. Add them to your salad. Put them on eggs, soup, sandwiches, pasta. Fill your tacos with these instead of iceburg lettuce. The sunflowers add a nutty flavor to smoothies. The spicy radish pairs well with proteins. Let your imagination be your guide. We keep a “sampler” in the fridge and put it on the counter with all our meals.

Q: When do you harvest?

A: Every week, typically on Thursday. This is a live crop and we are pretty good at timing everything, however, this can vary by a day in either direction. Also, we will occasionally shift it a day to avoid harvesting on a holiday or other special event.

Q: How do I get my greens?

Order online on our Shop page. We currently deliver to Nags Head and KDH. If you prefer pickup or live outside our delivery range, we offer a pickup location in Nags Head near the YMCA. You can also find us at Secotan Market.

Q: I see you offer subscriptions. How does that work and what if I go out of town or want to cancel?

We’ve got you covered! With a subscription, your greens will get delivered to your door every single week. Subscribers get the top priority with our fresh crops so your orders get filled first.

Life is dynamic and so if you ever want to “pause” your subscription so you can travel, take a timeout, or whatever at all, simply email us and let us know when you want to receive your next order. No explanation necessary. We will stop delivering and delay your next billing by the number of weeks you miss.

As a fun alternative to “pausing” your subscription, you can request that your greens get donated to the Beach Food Pantry. In this case your billing will continue as normal but your greens will get re-directed to the Food Pantry for as long as you want and will be delivered fresh at the same time as we deliver to everyone else :)

Cancelling is easy. You create a unique login when you subscribe and can cancel at any time. If you have any trouble or can’t see how to do this, simply email us and we can do it on our end. No explanation necessary. Life changes and everything should be flexible.

Q: How long are the greens good for?

A: Most people are surprised at the shelf life of the microgreens. It shows the value in receiving your greens FRESH. We generally prefer to consume greens within 7-10 days after harvest. However, if the lid is kept sealed your greens may last longer. We stamp the harvest date on each container so you are in the know. Basil and cilantro are smaller and more delicate and we recommend eating these within 6 days of harvest.

Q: Do you reuse returned containers?

A: Yes and no. While we aim to clean, sanitize and reuse as many returned containers as possible, there are times when we are unable to do so. If containers are too dirty, cracked or warped we do not reuse them. It is very helpful to us if the containers are gently rinsed with water to wash away any remaining greens prior to return.
